SUP1: Introduction to Paddleboarding

Ready to have some serious fun and start creating abs of steel? In this class you’ll get a full body workout while learning all the basics of the sport that’s taking over the waterways, Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)!


With the proper technique and knowledge, Stand Up Paddleboarding can be a lifelong sport. We want you to come away from this class feeling comfortable on a paddleboard, with skills you can build on for the rest of your life. No experience is necessary, but be prepared to get wet!

During the course we will introduce these topics: proper stances for balance and control, efficient paddling strokes, how to choose the best board and paddle, proper technique, how to turn, safety, how to get back on your board and more.

What's Covered:

  • Board nomenclature & basic design
  • Basic safety considerations
  • Stroke technique
  • Stance variations
  • Paddling in the wind
  • What to do if you fall in

What to Bring:

  • Full water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Sun glasses with strap
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Complete change of clothes (you can keep these in your car)
  • Feel free to bring a camera, but make sure it's in protected in a waterproof case

Itinerary

Class starts at 10:00am, but please give yourself a little time to park, change and make your way to our facility. We will wrap up by 1:00pm.

We will start class on our dock with check-ins and introductions. We'll go over boards and equipment, SUP safety, and how to properly carry and transport your SUP.

Then we'll head onto the water practice proper stances for balance and control, efficient paddling strokes, and how to get back on your board if you end up in the drink.

Need to Rent Gear?

Board, life jacket, paddle and leash are all provided. Dry suits and wet-suits are available for rent though they are not required.
